How to Choose Subscription Sizes
Hi Friend,
Have you ever signed up for a wheat berry subscription? It’s so convenient. No more having to remember to place your order. No more running out of wheat berries half way through a recipe.
But do you know the number one problem we see customers have with subscriptions?
Their subscription is too large for their normal amount of baking. Pretty soon bags of wheat are piling up.
That’s why today I’m going to help you determine the subscription size that fits your baking.
Subscription Quantities:
At Farm Fresh Wheat, we offer three different quantities for subscriptions: 5 lb, 10 lb, and 20 lb. Our wheat berries are best for non-yeast recipes (i.e. baking powder/baking soda recipes) like muffins, pancakes, waffles, crepes, naan and pita bread, quickbreads, cakes, cookies, pie crust, baked donuts, and more.
The following numbers may look big, but remember you are going to bake a variety of baked goods. For example, if you make:
4 batches of pancakes, 4 batches of biscuits, 2 dozen muffins, and 3 dozen cookies that’s about 5 lbs of wheat berries.
5 lb Subscription
This size is really popular for small families or weekend bakers. 5 lbs of wheat berries makes approximately:
6-7 cakes
8 dozen muffins
8 batches of biscuits
10 9x5 quickbreads
10 batches of waffles
24 dozen cookies
16 batches of 8 pancakes
10 lb Subscription
This is our most popular subscription size, and works for most families. 10 lbs of wheat berries makes approximately:
12-14 cakes
16 dozen muffins
16 batches of biscuits
20 9x5 quickbreads
20 batches of waffles
32 batches of 8 pancakes
48 dozen cookies
20 lb Subscription
Most families won’t go through 20 lbs of soft white wheat berries a month. Our most successful 20 lb subscriptions are quarterly. 20 lbs of wheat berries makes approximately:
24-28 cakes
32 dozen muffins
32 batches of biscuits
40 9x5 quickbreads
40 batches of waffles
64 batches of 8 pancakes
96 dozen cookies
Subscription Timing:
At Farm Fresh Wheat, we also offer monthly and quarterly subscriptions. If you find yourself between subscription sizes (a little more than 5 lb but not 10 lb) every month, a quarterly subscription may be what you need. Let’s think about it this way:
5 lb ÷ 3 months = 1 2/3 lbs of wheat berries each month
10 lb ÷ 3 months = 3 1/3 lbs of wheat berries each month
20 lb ÷ 3 months = 6 2/3 lbs of wheat berries each month
Your Backup Supply:
Thanksgiving, Christmas, class parties, church potluck… sometimes you will have heavy baking months. That’s why I recommend having a back up stash of wheat berries.
I recommend keeping an extra 5 lbs on hand, that way when you have a heavy baking month, you don’t run out before your next subscription shipment.
