Winter Wheat Berry Cereal

Hi Friend,

This Winter Wheat Berry Cereal is quick, simple and packed with fiber and nutrients.

This Winter Wheat Berry Cereal is quick, simple and packed with fiber and nutrients.

I want to share with you one of my favorite breakfasts for winter months, Winter Wheat Berry Cereal. The spicy aroma of this wheat berry cereal will make you want to snuggle with a blanket next to the window and watch the snow fall.

For this recipe you will need cooked wheat berries. If you keep cooked wheat berries in your refrigerator, Winter Wheat Berry Cereal only takes a couple of minutes to put together (not much longer than pouring a bowl of dry cereal). If you need to make wheat berries the morning of, you will need 40 minutes (Instant Pot) to 1 hour (stove top), with almost all that time spent cooking wheat berries. Personally, I cook my wheat berries the day before and keep them in the refrigerator for 4 days.

How to Make Winter Wheat Berry Cereal:

Have you tried cooked wheat berries yet? Wheat berries are packed with nutrients and fiber (just like freshly-milled flour). Using them whole is another way to make sure you are getting enough unrefined grains in your diet.

Cooked wheat berries should be firm on the outside and pop in in your mouth when you chew. If you are new to cooking wheat berries, you will want to try our Stove Top Wheat Berry recipe and our Instant Pot Wheat Berry Recipe (my go-to recipe).

STEP 1:

Add ½ cup warm, cooked wheat berries to a cereal bowl. I’m using our Farm Fresh Wheat soft white wheat berries grown on our family farm. You can buy your Farm Fresh Wheat berries here.

STEP 2:

Add 1/3 cup warm milk.

STEP 3:

Add ¾ tsp brown sugar and a dash of allspice, and stir well.

Tip: Most mornings I add cold wheat berries, cold milk, and spices to my bowl, stir then microwave for about 1 minute 20 seconds or until the cereal is hot. Be careful not to boil or cook your milk in the microwave.

This recipe makes the perfect amount for 1 serving for me, but you can easily adjust this recipe up or down for however many people you are serving.
